Eating all Organic For 1 Week
The Switch
(MONDAY & TUESDAY)
I noticed that in the past few days, from eating all organic foods my body has been going through some positive change. From eating healthy foods I’ve been noticing that my body is more full because it’s getting more nutrients. Eating fast food is less fulfilling than a homemade meal because we know that fast food is bad but we still eat it. We also now how easy it is to make a healthy meal at home, instead of packing my body full of Mcchickens I can make myself a nice organic salad. Although buying all organic is more expensive I know that it is worth it because I know where my food is coming from and what I’m putting in my body, plus I don’t feel bad about myself after eating good choices. I’ve also seen that relations with my family are better because I’m less moody from hunger satisfaction. However, this change has been difficult, in the past two days I’ve found myself staring at some Red Velvet Oreos at my local Vons. But honestly, it’s worth it. Eating all organic GMO free foods has no negative effect on me, and yes, maybe a bag of Cheetos is cheaper than vegetables and organic meat, but what will serve me better in the long run? I think we all know the answer there.
Today I ate a two egg omelette for breakfast. Pretty healthy I just made it with tomatoes and onions and tossed the rest of the tomato and some avocado on the side.
For lunch I ate a stir fry noodle concoction that my grandma made. It is high protein, with chicken and broccoli. I ate an all organic steak salad from tender greens for dinner to conclude my day. I guess eating out doesn’t have to be bad. It came with 4 pieces of steak and it hit the spot, in the end I’m not going to sleep hungry and I’m feeling better about my choices. It probably cost me $16 all together but this will feed me tomorrow as well.
My whole life I’ve known the words Genetically Modified Organism but I didn’t know the meaning behind them. A GMO is an organism that is genetically altered to taste better or to grow faster. Originally, I think, GMO’s were just a way to help farmers, but now big companies like Monsanto have taken it too far for money. Monsanto is a company that makes and sells Biotech seeds that have been modified to grow quicker and withstand a chemical called Roundup (a weed killer).
This helps them grow more seeds and make a lot of money. “Feeding the World” is a quote that they use to justify their actions. But where are those seeds in Africa? India? I heard they're starving over there, Monsanto. The quote they should use is “Feeding our Wallets” because that’s the truth of the matter. Honestly, I don’t think that altering the seeds to grow fast is the problem. I think that pouring weed killer on top of food is the real problem. They are literally dumping chemicals that are created to destroy natural life on to the seeds that we eat. I know that I don’t want to eat that. Before I never really cared about GMO’s because I figured, well I’ve been them my whole life and I’m fine. But a two year study in France led by a professor named Eric Seralini shows that rats develop tumors towards the end of their lives. So maybe if I kept on the path of all processed and GMO products I would developed a tumor towards the end of my life. I don’t want a tumor! That’s why I’ve been eating all Organic foods this week.
Even if you don’t agree that GMO’s are harmful, people should still have the right to know what they’re eating. There has been many attempts to label GMO’s in America, and GMO’s are banned or labeled in many countries in Europe. So why are we failing here in the US? Do we not care enough? Or are we just not educated well on the topic? If GMO’s were so harmless then labeling them shouldn’t be a problem.
Organic Mood
(THURSDAY & FRIDAY)
I’ve had a very successful change on my mood. I saw myself fighting with my parents and grandparents a lot because I was hungry and getting moody. But now that I’m eating healthier I’m always less hungry and not upset at myself about my choices. Usually obese people eat a lot of food because they find comfort in food when they are having problems in real life. Then they get even more depressed because of the effects that excess unhealthy food has on their body without exercise. But if we cut off the problem at the source maybe we can change the obesity rate in America. I am not obese and I wasn’t severely eating GMO filled food, but after 4 days of eating organic food (such as the the foods that I have been mentioning in the pictures before) I can see changes in my mood and body. I also feel very relaxed, I don’t stress about every little thing and I’m able to enjoy all the little things. A lot more laughter and happiness from me I guess. I think this is happening because I'm not worried about the choices that I made earlier because they were all healthy.

I definitely feel like this week will contribute to more permanent changes in my diet. According to the American Psychological Association, stress makes the body want to eat sugar to serve as quick fuel. Sugar fuels up the body but not the cells, so everyone is still walking around still very hungry although their body thinks that they have already eaten a meal. So now the cells are hungry but no one will let themselves eat again because they're convinced that the sugary food they just ate is beneficial for them. News flash. It’s not. See, a GMO free, organic product would have kicked that stress’s butt and would have been both nutritious for the cells and body’s energy. No one would have even been stressed in the beginning if they were eating organic products from the start.
For breakfast I ate Greek yogurt and a banana. It offered my body some Pottasium, Calcium, and Vitamin D. This was a good and healthy way to start my day.
I ate a turkey and swiss sandwich on wheat bread for lunch, it had whole wheat bread which has a low fat and high protein count and a good Potassium amount too. The all natural turkey was very delicious, and high in protein. In all, it was really good and had me full for a while. In between lunch and dinner I ate a Cliff Bar (High in protein and sugars for energy) from Trader Joes. I had some rice and salad for dinner (Low calorie with a lot of vitamins, and light carbs to make me full for a long time) Thursday night and I went to bed very satisfied.
Challenges + Will Power + Exercise
(SATURDAY)
The challenges in my week have mostly been craving or temptation based. I often found myself drooling over junk foods, and wanting to eat a bowl ice cream here or there, but I’ve been sticking to it and for that I am happy. Will power is something that not everyone has, but it’s usually easier when you have weaned yourself off those bad foods so that you will have less desire to eat them. For me, usually, I have pretty decent willpower. If I’m doing something especially for the sake of my body, I’m going to follow through, because my body is really important and I have to take good care of it. I think of it like a baby, if I had a baby, I would need to feed the baby the right foods so he or she would grow up in the right direction. I wouldn’t want to send my baby in the wrong direction of life. Because I would be a pretty bad parent if so.
A good way to start a new diet is to list all the things that you can’t eat on a piece of paper. This can help you gain some will power because your brain will be associating all those foods with the negative side of you not being able to have them. I do this every time I am dieting because I can just look at the list and remember why I am doing this, it helps especially when you're in the mood to eat some junk food. I just had the basic junk food on my list; Hamburger, the Mcdonalds menu, Pizza, Soda, ect... Plus after a little while of not having those types of food you will cease to desire them in the slightest. Another obvious key activity in staying fit is exercise. Getting enough or the right amount of exercise is very difficult for many people. People might be at home watching Netflix in their bed with a bowl full of ice cream (which by the way sounds great to me right now) knowing that this will be the only time they can go to the gym today, but also knowing that the next friends episode is coming up, and they don’t want to miss it. It’s Netflix. They won’t miss their spot, it saves it for them, that is one of the great wonders of Netflix. Everyone needs to get up and get to the gym. Get on the treadmill, run five miles. Grab some weights, pick them up and put them back down again (properly, with correct form) for an hour. Monica, Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe will be there when you get back.
Moving Forward
(SUNDAY/LAST DAY)
Yes, this past week may have been quite challenging, but I feel that the positives outweigh the negatives by a lot here. I feel happier, I feel healthier, and I don’t feel like I really need junk food at all now. I am definitely going to let this week effect much more of my lifestyle. Sure maybe I can eat a bag of chips here or there, but feeling healthy is the best feeling ever, and I’ve only done it for a week. Imagine for a month, or a year. Your whole mindset would switch positively, you would wake up happier, go to school happier, someone who isn’t a morning person could begin to start enjoying them. Not only is fast lost, but so is stress (not under all circumstances). I want to start a whole new part of my life where I’m actually always healthy. Before this week, I didn’t really care for fruits. I always thought they had too much sugar and not enough nutritional benefit. I was an idiot. Fruits are my best friends. They feed my body with vitamins and antioxidants, which helps my cells stay strong. To get groceries, I could pick up all organic vegetables and meats from my local farmers market or whole foods. Moving forward from this week, I can encourage others to eat better and exercise more. I’ll be the new Michelle Obama. Well I guess that was the purpose of this blog. Being fit is not something I was born with, fitness is something I have to strive for and achieve. It is difficult, I have to put some work in if I want to achieve the goals that I set out for. I’ve made some goals and now it’s time for me to follow through. John F. Kennedy once said, “Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.” It’s not easy to eat healthy, but I have already began my new lifestyle. Begin yours.
